ON
ENTERING
In some Duplicate games you enter the
room
and sit at any table. In the center of the table is a Place Mat (or one
will be put down shortly) with a number and the four directions. This
is
your starting table. You and your partner will be have the number
and direction (North/South or East/West) that is on this Place
Mat
for the entire course of the game. If you are sitting North with
number 3 on the Place Mat, then your team is "3 North/South". If you
are
sitting at number 9 East then your team is "9 East/West".
In most cases however, the Director, or the person running the game,
will
assign you a number and direction. "Mrs. Smith, you are 3 North/South."
Then you find table 3 and sit in the North/South direction. This is
your
starting table.
THE
DIRECTOR
The club Director is the boss. He/she
does
everything from selling entries (or collecting the card fee during the
game) to setting up the movement of cards and players; from making
coffee
to filling in and playing a hand or two; from scoring to ruling on any
infractions by awarding bonuses or restoring equity. Some Directors
even
answer questions about Bridge bidding and play. But for fairness to the
opponents and the other teams, these questions should be asked after
the
hand is played. Questions concerning other topics, e.g. food, sex and
the
movies can be asked at any time.
